Today Saturday September 20th, 2008 Can-Do will be at Crow Creek Indian Reservation in Fort Thompson, South Dakota participating in the "A Day of Dignity" project. This is the second year of this event. This was started to provide immediate aid and assistance to this impoverished Sioux tribal community of 2,800 people. These are a tribe that has been left behind with help and promises and they desperately need our support.
As of the year 2000 US cenus, Buffalo County was the nations poorest area and had more impoverished children than any other county in the US. Most of Buffalo County is made up of the Crow Creek Indian Reservation. The census showed an unemployment rate of 80%, with the average combined income of less than $10,000.00 per year. A great number of homes lack the basic needs such as kitchens, plumbing or telephones. It is common to have families of 18 people living in one home. It is NOT uncommon to have electricity shut off during the harshest months of winter, with the weather reaching well below zero, for months on end. Conditions that we hope to never see ourselves or our loved ones in. This community desperately needs our help. We have a list of items that are needed on our website under Crow Creek.
Can-Do is reaching out to our friends and supporters to donate to this very deserving and amazing cause. We count on our volunteers and donators to make these projects possible.

The 604 and White's Road are under 3 feet of water--and there is no electricity in town, but the Community Center is fine, she said. Of course, the Beach Highway-90-is also flooded along with other areas.

Winds and rain have picked up again and I want to unplug my computer in case we lose electricity. 100 homes in Pearlington flooded and a tornado touched down near Stennis Space Center. Of course, Pearlington is just a few miles from the Center so I don't know yet where it touched down. I'll wait until the storm has moved out of our area before I call Dallas. I don't know when she'll go back, but she could tell us how the community center withstood the hurricane. I-90 was covered with water from Biloxi through Hancock County. I don't know how much of our local news you can get so I'll try to keep you updated. We are still under a tornado watch.
