Letter from the Field

From: Keshia Ball
Email: keshiaxxx
LogDate: June 24th, 2008
Message: Hey, I am sure this message won\'t go directly to Eric Klein, but I just wanted to let him know how much I look up to him. I just saw his picture in The Hawkeye where he was helping out a town, Oakville, just miles away from my house. It really touched my heart to see that Eric Klein was helping out the little town of Oakville, not to mention I kind of freaked out knowing that someone I admire was so close to me! I watched Eric on \"Oprah\'s Big Give\" & he was instantly my favorite. He has such a huge heart and has really inspired me to help out whenever possible. Keep up the amazing work Eric & the CAN-DO organization! You all are so amazing! I hope one day I can start or be part of a wonderful organization like CAN-DO.
-Keshia, Mediapolis, Iowa

Letter from the field....Iowa Floods

From: Shirley
Email: xxx
LogDate: June 21st, 2008
Message: "I am very thankfull for the donations. Cedar Rapids, Iowa needs help also. I will tell you some of the problems here. People have to stand outside in the sun for 8 hrs to register for assistencs . They are taking only 200 people a day at this site. I am unaware of wheather or not there are more then one place set up to this. Why is this outside and not in a building or in the mall or somewhere that the people can have some shelter. Yesterday I saw an elderly lady on the news cry. She waited all day in line and when she got to the front of the line they stoped for the day. Why coulden\'t they count out 200 people and send the rest home? Why are these poor people made to suffer more then they already have. Another problem is that the grabage from the flood has not been picked up. We are now One big garbage dump. The streets are lined with garbage. It is not only unhealthy for this stuff to sit there and forment but I is
very stinky. Some of the shelters have been closed, so some people have no other choice but to go back to their stinky homes. How they can do that I don\'t know. Our cabin was submurged under flood water and It is a total loss. I am thankfull for all the water and cleaning kits that were delivered here amound other things. We fell short in getting these things to the elderly and disabled but we are gratefull. There should have been more places set up for tetnis shots and to pass out masks to the people that are cleaning up.
Thank you"

ANIMAL RESCUE STREAMING LIVE ON VIRTUALVOLUNTEER.TV

4 days, over 4,000 miles, 3 vans, 6 drivers, 90+ dogs... We left Venice,CA yesterday at 10am, arrived in Lindsay, CA around 1:30pm loaded the doges and were on the road by 4pm. We are currently heading to St. Paul, Minnesota. We made our first stop in Fresno, CA to walk, water the dogs and clean the cages. Its about 4am and will be approaching RENO, NV in about an hour to walk and feed the dogs... check out the transport live at www.virtualvolunteer.tv
Thank you for your support!

On June 16th, 2008, CAN-DO be transporting nearly 100 dogs from an overcrowded animal shelter in Northern California. The dogs were to be euthanized in a week if they couldn't be moved to a no-kill shelter with available space.

Britt Gage contacted CAN-DO after reading about our animal transports out of the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina. After speaking with Britt, CAN-DO was more than happy to take the assignment.

CAN-DO will be using three air-conditioned extended cargo vans supported by a volunteer crew of six to take the dogs to 'Puppy Porch' in St. Paul Minnesota. Puppy Porch is a 501c3 no kill rescue group of volunteers who foster animals pending adoption.

To ensure our success, Bob Putnam, who has worked with Eric Klein & CAN-DO in the past on post-Katrina rebuilding projects, will travel with the group. This will be Putnam's fourth animal evacuation project with CAN-DO.

You, our supporters will be able to view portions of the transport LIVE via the internet at VirtualVolunteer.tv, CAN-DO's latest creation to support the nonprofit organization's continued commitment to 100% accountable grassroots relief. VirtualVolunteer.tv streams LIVE and pre-recorded video to you the viewer and it enables the supporters of non-profit organizations to track projects in real-time, and feel confident their generous donations are making it to the pre-established destination.

As always, we need your support for future animal rescues, post-natural disaster projects and humanitarian efforts. CAN-DO exists because of you, monetary donations are appreciated and can be made through the CAN-DO.org web site at https://secure.can-do.org and also by mail to the address found on our donation page (http://www.can-do.org/contact).

CAN-DO also welcomes surplus donations as well as gas cards, van rental deals supported by promotion of sponsors on the CAN-DO and Virtual Volunteer websites. For surplus donations, contact CAN-DO at the following email address administration@can-do.org.

With the start of what is predicted to be a strong hurricane season, we are preparing for what is to come and hope we can get your help not only through donations but sharing this site and VirtualVolunteer.tv links to get the word out.

For more information about our animal evacuation and transport visit http://can-do.org/PetEvac.php

We thank you for your support!

Eric Klein
CEO/Founder
CAN-DO
