Can-Do - Gulf Coast Wish List

CAN-DO Wish list for the Gulf Coast (Pearlington, MS and Surrounding area)

1) GREG'S PEARLINGTON HOUSE:
Our friend Greg from Pearlington is a colorful guy who spent the storm trapped in a tree. Cooperative Baptist donated the materials for the shell of the home, and it remains just that, a shell. Greg's home is the farthest from completion. It needs a central A/C and heat to continue work. Time is critical here; we have volunteer groups here for the next 3 weeks who can finish the house with appropriate funding. Thanks Pearlington Recovery Center for their donation of labor!!
TOTAL COST $4,350.00 (labor included)

2) FAYE; STUCK IN A HARD PLACE:
Faye has been forced to leave her son, 17, in a group home, as her FEMA trailer park does not allow minors. Faye has purchased a property with her FEMA money and our friends at Pearlington Recovery Center have obtained a grant for her. our immediate goal is to finish her septic system, and get Faye AND her son moved into their FEMA trailer. This can happen in a week with your help!
TOTAL COST $1,655.00

3) MICHELLE IN BAY ST. LOUIS:
The divorced mother of 5 boys (her youngest just turned 6), Michelle's husband left before Hurricane Katrina But has been struggling to make ends meet. We would like to help her rebuild. Bay st. louis has one of the most stringent codes on the coast. Homes must be framed quickly. Electricians licensed in other states are welcome to get temporary license $25.00 and can wire the house. Plumbers are relatively cheap and charge $4000 to rough in, finish plumbing and connect to municipal sewage system. Materials for the plumbing, rough in thru connect to city, $47,00.00.
TOTAL COST $39,000.00

4) BILLY FROM BAY ST. LOUIS:
Billy and his wife, now in Pearlington, became pregnant after Katrina. They were renters before the storm. Billy's in-laws have welcomed his daughter and wife but do not have room for Billy who usually sleeps in their driveway. Billy has proved himself in the role of provider; he pays all the expenses of child and wife, but is unable to put a down payment on a mortgage at this time.
We have currently $10,000.00 set aside towards building a house for Billy and his family. A local landowner has agreed to lease the property to him on a rent to own, homesteaders lease. After paying $1800 a year including current taxes, Billy will own the property in 10 years!
