On June 5, 2008, CAN-DO was contacted by Britt Gage of Puppy Porch in St. Paul, Minnesota with a plea for help. She was seeking aid in transporting 45-60 dogs from an overcrowded Northern California animal shelter. The dogs were to be euthanized in a week if they couldn't be moved to a no-kill shelter with available space.

Gage had read about CAN-DO’s animal transports out of the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina. In a matter of days CAN-DO Founder & CEO, Eric Klein contacted Gage to give her the good news. CAN-DO was more than happy to take the assignment.

On June 15th, 2008, CAN-DO will be using three air-conditioned extended cargo vans supported by a volunteer crew of six to take the now 88+ dogs (some had puppies and others are on the way) to Puppy Porch in St. Paul, which is a 501c3 no kill rescue group of volunteers who foster the animals pending adoption.

To ensure success, Bob Putnam, who Klein continues to work with on post-Katrina rebuilding projects in Pearlington, MS and Slidell, LA, will travel with the group. This will be Putnam’s fourth animal evacuation project with CAN-DO.

CAN-DO’s supporters will be able to view the transport live on VirtualVolunteer.tv, CAN-DO’s latest creation to support the nonprofit organization’s continued commitment to 100% accountable grassroots relief.
every step of the way. VirtualVolunteer.tv will enable supporters to track projects in real-time, and we’ll be sure to notify our supporters when these live reports will air.

The WAGGIN’ TRAIN will be a 4,000 mile roundtrip project. We need your support for future animal rescues. Monetary donations can be made through CAN-DO.org and by mail. CAN-DO also welcomes surplus donations as well as gas cards, van rental deals supported by promotion of sponsors on the CAN-DO and Virtual Volunteer websites. For surplus donations, contact CAN-DO.

With the start of what is predicted to be a strong hurricane season, we are preparing for what is to come and hope we can get your help not only through donations but sharing this site and VirtualVolunteer.tv links to get the word out.

We thank you in advance for your support. Together, we can make a difference. It’s easier than people think, and with CAN-DO, you will always be able to see exactly where your donations are going and the lives they are affecting. Please donate today!
