CALL TO ACTION - PINE RIDGE INDIAN RESERVATION

CAN-DO has been working on putting together a program for Pine Ridge Indian Reservation for the upcoming year, 2009. Due to the recent winter storm (in November) the residents of Pine Ridge have been struggling to survive due to power outages. It is CAN-DO’s goal to provide immediate and direct assistance to the residents, in their efforts to survive the winter weather that sweeps down across South Dakota from the Canadian arctic. We seek to address the immediate issue of winter heating & the long term solutions to resolve this annual struggle against the harsh winter climate. In doing so we seek to:

*Address emergency heating needs
*Power generators to be donated to emergency sites, where residents can be brought during severe weather.
*Blanket Drives for the elderly & children
*Chain Saws & wood cutting supplies for wood burning stoves
*Heavy winter coats & gloves suitable for extreme cold weather conditions
*Due to the recent outages the residents lost most all their food, so we are looking for canned goods or doantions to purchase the food in Pine Ridge.

As of today 12/08/08 we have received a total of $2,300 to purchase soup. A local grocer is willing to sell us the soup and can goods at coast which breaks down to, $200 for 20 cases = 500 cans. CAN-DO will be heading to Pine Ridge to distribute the food and supplies we raise in the next two weeks.
