Animal situation...

Here we are 20 months after the storm, and animal issues are still being addressed. BucksMont Katrina Animal Project has made a formal proposal to Hancock county Board of Supervisors, to construct a 1.5 million dollar shelter for domestic animals, that will include spay and neuter facility, adoption education, and eventually a transporting initiative so that these healthy animals get the chance to live long, healthy lives. Once a suitable site is chosen, construction will begin. Read more

Letter from the field/Bob Putnam

Today is May 4th 2007. It is a rainy overcast day here in Pearlington, MS and the 40 or so volunteers we have are concentrating on interior work in homes that are being either remodeled or rebuilt. It is estimated that their is 12% of the community living in permanent housing, another 12% that are in some phase of construction and the remainder still in limbo and unsure of how or when something is going to start happening for them. 2007 UPDATE...

CAN-DO is currently planning our next major initiatives.
Our ambition is to revisit two regions where we feel that CAN-DO
resources can be instrumental in improving the daily lives of hundreds.
A return trip to Sri Lanka in the fall will see the completion of
several recovery projects in Galle, and surrounding villages, initially implemented in
2005 after Tsunami. Read more
